Seven out of nine games from the Czech studio were among the free ones.
Since its inception, the Epic Games Store has positioned itself as a platform that supports small developers. This is proven not only by offering them a larger share of sales (88% instead of the usual 70% on Steam), but also by regular weekly promotions for free games. They are designed to attract new players and make studios noticeable and worthy of attention. And thanks to this, the Czech studio Amanita Design became famous this year. Since the beginning of the year, Epic has released seven of their nine games, starting with the cult classic. Machinarium over Botanicula until Self-sufficiency 3.
To put that into perspective, players downloaded more than 595 million games for free in 2024, making Epic Games one of the largest marketing platforms for indie developers in the world. So it’s clear that a promotion like this means a lot for the small studio – and in Amanita’s case, it could even pave the way for their upcoming project Phonopolis.
