The price of the Xbox Developer Kit (XDK) will increase from $1,500 to $2,000—a significant 33% increase for game developers alone.
Players aren’t the only ones who will feel unpleasant tripping Xbox Services. Microsoft is also raising the bar for anyone who wants to create games for Xbox – the XDK Developer Kit is now available. 2000 US dollarsand until now the price was 1500 US dollars. Additionally, the announcement said the adjustment “reflects macroeconomic trends.”
In defense: Microsoft mentions rising development costschanges in exchange rates and high duties on imported components from China. Reaction from the developer community has been mixed: while more established studios typically have larger budgets, indie developers feel that this increase is an unnecessary barrier to entry.
The overall situation is further aggravated by additional price increases for consoles and Xbox Game Pass subscription services.
Microsoft will publish its next financial report for October 29when the company will also provide an overview of how much money it made over the past three months.
