Tomonobu Itagaki, founder of Team Ninja and father of the Dead or Alive series, has died.

Famous video game producer dies at age 58 Tomonobu Itagaki. He is best known as the founder of the popular studio Ninja Teamwith whom he created the series Dead or Alive and rebooted the brand in 3D Ninja Gaiden.

The developer said goodbye with a posthumous Facebook post: “My life was a series of battles that I won. I also caused a lot of trouble. I am proud that I fought to the end and remained true to my beliefs. I have no regrets. I’m just sorry that I couldn’t give my fans new games. I’m really sorry. That’s life.”

Itagaki founded Team Ninja in 1995 as the third creative division of then-publisher Tecmo and soon began to find success with it. Controversy did not escape him in 2006, when a colleague accused him of sexual harassment. Itagaki lost his high position in the company. However, Japanese courts found him not guilty. A few years later, he fell out with the parent company over unpaid bonuses.

In subsequent years he contacted the studio Valhallawhere he worked on the game Third Devil. After its closure in 2021, he founded his own. Itagaki Games. The studio is working on an unannounced game.
