When LEGO released its iconic Game Boy model, the moderators clearly couldn’t sleep – and one of the fastest reactions came from Natalie Botanikwhich turned the Lego Game Boy into a real handheld console.

Unlike conventional emulation-based modes (for example, inside the Raspberry Pi), Natalie has integrated Real Game Boy chips.

In the LEGO model, the fake display was replaced with a mini functional screen and the internal space was adjusted to accommodate electronics (some bricks had to be removed).

Lego buttons act like mechanical switches. The correct connection is configured using 3D adapters. For example, during the prototype stage, buttons A and B were secured with springs to ensure reliable operation. The power system works via USB-C, elegantly disguised 3D parts that fit into the LEGO structure.

Natalie plans to publish mod kit With complete documentation so others can resurrect their own LEGO Game Boy – she says it should be available and compiled. For more experienced modders. However, the project is not complete – the speaker volume and buttons still need to be adjusted.

It’s nice to see how the line between “toy” and functional electronics is blurring. Today it is obvious that everything is possible.
