Previously, the technology was available only for the last series.
NVIDIA previously announced the technology of smooth movement. Unlike the classic personnel gene in the DLSS package, this is a function at the driver level that you can use in almost any game, but at a price of addition of images, since the algorithm does not have the necessary data directly from the game. This can cause unpleasant artifacts, especially in the user interface, but even in this case, this technology has its own use.
For several months, Smooth Motion was available only for the last RTX 50 series, but now the technology has finally appeared for owners of RTX 40 cards, at least as part of transfer drivers. When supporting support, the function was decided to check the YouTuber Daniel Owen. In particular, in Elden Ring, which is usually limited by 60 scenes per second and does not have an integrated framework of genes.
The results were the same as expected, an increase in smoothness to 120 frames per second is definitely known, but smooth movement also causes smaller artifacts when moving HUD. Nothing terrible, but good to count on it.
Owen also briefly compared the technology with a popular scaling application without loss, which works on video cards from all manufacturers, and the image quality has become comparable. Harding without loss is a paid program, even if you get it on Steam for a very low price of $ 7. Free alternative – AFMF, but it is available only for AMD cards, from the RX 6000 series.
In any case, the fact is that the generation of images at the driver level is best used only when there is actually there is no other option. That is, in a game that does not have an integrated classic frame gene and has a relatively low FPS limit, which you cannot get without a frame gene.
