PlayStation 5 is finally getting VRR support

After more than a year and a half since the release of the new consoles, PlayStation 5 owners are finally getting their much-needed VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support. Sony announced today that the feature is gradually released worldwide over the course of a week. Using VRR, the display dynamically adjusts the refresh rate, which makes playing games with unstable FPS much more enjoyable.

Sony has already unveiled the first games that will arrive in the coming weeks. The list looks like this:

  • Astro playroom
  • Call of Duty: Vanguard
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
  • Destiny 2
  • Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
  • DIRT 5
  • Yearfall
  • Marvel’s remastering of Spider-Man
  • Marvel Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Resident Evil Village
  • Tiny Tina’s Wonderland
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
  • Tribes of Midgard

However, the Japanese company promises that we can expect more games in the future, whether old ones that will get support via a patch, or brand new ones that will include VRR from the moment they are released.

Finally, just a reminder that VRR will work only on TVs and monitors with HDMI 2.1 connectors. There is no other option for TVs, but Sony has not yet commented, as is the case with monitors with AMD FreeSync standards or Nvidia’s G-Sync standards, which do not require HDMI 2.1 to work. While the Xbox Series consoles support both features, things can be different on the PS5, of course.
