Gradually, companies such as ASUS, Lenovo or MSI, which often managed to offer higher performance or the best display, joined their parts, but they all rely on the Windows operating system. Of course, this has its advantages, especially in the form of full compatibility with all the games that work on the PC, but also has a number of inconvenience, especially non -intuitive interfaces and the service life of the battery.
Valve previously announced that the Linux distribution called Steamos, which will work on the Steam deck, will publish in the future and will be able to use competing portable devices. And now this has happened because the new Legion Go S model, which installed the installed Steamos.
YouTuber Dave2D has reached a new version of the portable device, which does not differ in advance and is subjected to various tests, the results are relatively amazing. First of all, in five games (Cyberpunk 2077, Helldivers 2, Doom Eternal, Spiderman 2 and Witcher 3) found that the legion with Steamos is often faster than the same portable Windows operating system. The difference can be a few percent, but, for example, in the case of a cyberpuke of several dozen.
But where the difference is even more extreme – this is endurance. It was very weak in the Windows version, even in less demanding names. Steamos completely changes the situation, and when it plays names, such as Hades or Dead Cells, can more than doubled, thus, although not quite called the steam deck OLED.
Of course, since it fell in the introduction, Steamos may have problems with some games, especially when it comes to more old and specific names. But the PROTON complaint layer, which develops the valve only for the correct functioning of Windows on Linux, is constantly improving and now can cover most of the names that you may want to play in a portable device.
