Online team shooter fiasco Concord from Call of Duty veterans should have shaken Sony’s confidence in live service projects. The Japanese company should be much more strict in evaluating games based on this business model. For this reason, two other major projects were canceled earlier this year: multiplayer version of God of War from Bluepoint Games and sci-fi action game from Bend Studio.

“I was told that this was all the result of the Concord.” said renowned journalist and leader Jeff Grubb on his show Game Mess. “Sony was shocked by the results of this game, so they are now going around all their studios and reviewing each project. When it comes to games as a service, the project has to overcome a number of obstacles to even get started.”

According to Grubb, everyone at Sony is stunned, and any teams that now want to implement a live service project will have a very difficult time. There are rumors that Concorde’s monumental failure has awakened the management of the Japanese company and PlayStation Studios intends to once again focus on single-player story-based games. That is, to the traditional games that made the PlayStation PlayStation.

Sony promised big profits and stable income from games with a live service. Initially, 12 different games were planned to be released by the end of 2025. However, this list gradually became thinner, and so far only Helldivers 2 has reached it. The remaining projects simply did not seem to reach their expected potential. In the last year or so alone, Sony has canceled nine such projects, including a standalone multiplayer game from the world of The Last of Us.
