Around 50 BC cruel times began, during which Caesar’s troops occupied one village after another. This entire campaign is called the Gallic Wars, and only one brave village was able to withstand Caesar’s attacks. You may have heard a similar story before, but here we place ourselves not in the role of Gauls enhanced by a magic potion, but in the role of Celtic tribes relying on military strategies and a little luck.
Tribe Nation is a game created by experienced Czech hands from the Random Worlds studio. And although it’s a small studio, it relies on what Czech game creators do best: creativity and originality. Tribe Nation combines military strategy, controlled on hexagonal fields, with elements rogue mechanic. This means that no meeting should be the same and you will always have to adapt to the situation.
It takes place in a story where your tribe escapes Caesar’s army while facing other obstacles to overcome. In general, the visual part of the game is quite simple. You see the army from an isometric perspective and control it with a simple mouse click. This concerns the combat phase, while the next part of the game can be called the preparation phase, in which you have to decide what to do with your troops, newly acquired abilities and items.
Your battles and skirmishes are scattered across the map of Europe, with each country you visit divided into several more battles. Each individual meeting lasts approximately 5 minutes. If you manage to defeat the enemy, at the end of the battle you will have three options to deal with the enemies. The more brutal you are, the more loot and rewards you’ll receive, but you also run the risk of making subsequent rounds more difficult for yourself, either due to the difficulty of obtaining generals or the increased aggressiveness of your opponents.
With these bonuses falling under the previously mentioned rogue mechanics, every fight should be different and you will have to become the most formidable warlord and evaluate what advantages and disadvantages you can afford. To understand planning, let’s look at what specific resources and bonuses you’ll need and why. Among the main raw materials you’ll have to deal with is iron, which can be used to make weapons or armor that you can then use to strengthen your armies. You will also be interested in the currency in the form of irises, for which you can buy additional equipment from merchants. You will also need food, which is needed to make potions to recharge your units.
People will be needed to heal soldiers or recruit a new troop, and if you want to improve the movement of your troops, you can put them on horses. All this can be obtained at the end of the battle. Once you’ve mastered these items, it’s time to strategize the placement of your troops, which are divided into ranged and melee units. You’ll need to be careful to have a balanced amount of both types, assigning them a noble that affects how they perform on the map. For example, the abilities of these military leaders can ensure that units stick to certain formations. Some are more suitable, for example, for defense, others, on the contrary, for breaking through enemy formations. The abilities that make you stronger are called wisdom.
