Shuhei Yoshidaformer head of PlayStation, shared his views on criticism of Sony remasters and PC ports in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. Fans and the media often don’t understand how these projects contribute to the development of new games, he said.
Yoshida stated that Remasters and PC ports are an important part of PlayStation’s strategy.. “Developing remasters and ports is much cheaper and also brings additional income. This funding then allows investment in large single-player games, which are currently extremely expensive to produce.” Yoshida explained.
He also emphasized that special teams are working on remasters (Sony bought Nixxes Software for this), so they do not come at the expense of the development of new games. These projects help expand the player base, especially on PC, while maintaining a focus on quality and innovation in PlayStation exclusive games, he said.
At the same time, Yoshida expressed confidence that Sony has no plans to abandon the production of consoles or concentrate on other equipment instead of its own. However, he acknowledged that the adoption of the PC as a platform for PlayStation games is key to future growth.
Personally, Yoshida would not risk investing in games that focus exclusively on live service, because believes in the importance of the single player experiencewhich are key for the PlayStation.
In the interview, he also mentioned the possibility Bloody remaster and the second part. In both cases, the ball is in the court of the head of the FromSoftware studio. Sony doesn’t want to pass him by, but Hidetaki Miyazaki is very busy and even though he loves Bloodborne, he doesn’t have time for it right now. At the same time, he wishes that no one else would work on him. PlayStation should respect his wishes.
