New Mass Effect could mark the return of one of the iconic elements of the original trilogy – Paragon and Renegade systems. At least this is evidenced by the reaction of game director Michael Gamble, who said that players will have to wait for an answer.
Rumors of the return of this morality system were sparked by an image released in 2024 that purportedly depicted a character from the upcoming installment of the series. The work features stylized lighting effects that, according to fan Kala Elizabeth, are reminiscent of the Paragon logo from the original trilogy.
“The Paragon/Renegade system will definitely return in Mass Effect 5” stated on Platform X. Michael Gamble responded: “I was talking about the trilogy. You’ll have to wait and see…”
The Paragon/Renegade system in the original games allowed players to make decisions in their actions based on morality. Good deeds increased the level of the Paragon, and actions considered unethical strengthened the Renegade. These choices then opened up new possibilities for dialogue or events.
In the third Mass Effect the system was modified and was no longer present in Andromeda. Would you like the Paragon and Renegade system in the new Mass Effect?
Gamble previously reported that Mass Effect 5 will retain the “adult tone of the original trilogy” and will offer photorealistic visual effects. But players will have to be patient – according to assumptions, the game may not be released until 2029.
