Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed its strategy of publishing games on PC, emphasizing that PlayStation consoles remain its key focus. In an interview with Famitsu, PlayStation Studios head Hermann Hulst talked about how they approach publishing games for different platforms.
According to Hulst, games as a service (aka live service games) will continue to be released simultaneously on multiple platforms, including PC, because for these games it is important to have as many players as possible. “The success of live service games depends on attracting new players and growing the community. That’s why it’s so important to seize the moment of release and offer the game to as many players as possible.” explains Hulst.
Singlesthat is, classic story-driven games are still a key element of Sony’s definition of the PlayStation brand. “Single-player games are an important element of PlayStation’s appeal. We strategically plan periods of exclusivity for each game so that PlayStation players can be the first to experience the best version possible.” Hulst stated.
At the same time, Sony sees PC expansion as a way to bring its games to a wider audience, but with clear priorities. “Our top priority remains providing players with the best possible experience. Support is also part of this strategy. link PSN accounts on PCwhich improves cross-platform communication.” Hulst added. However, many players do not think so, and being tied to a PSN account annoys them or prevents them from playing where the PlayStation Network is not supported.
