Schofield, gone Studios at a distance after the failure of the debut game Callisto Protocol (spiritual successor to Dead Space), teamed up with former colleagues Bret Robbins and Christopher Stone to jointly come up with the concept Dead Space 4. Unfortunately, despite their expertise and enthusiasm for the project, EA did not respond positively to this proposal.

“Actually, all three of us tried.” Schofield said in an interview with YouTuber Dan Allen. “Dead Space 4. We tried. They said no. This was this year.

Schofield explained that the proposal was not detailed because EA was not interested in it at an early stage. “They said, ‘We’re not interested right now, we appreciate your offer, blah blah.’ We knew who to contact, but did not develop it further. We respected their opinion. They know their numbers and they know what they need to do.”

Christopher Stone also commented on the whole situation. According to him, the gaming industry is now in a strange situation. “People are very cautious, they don’t like to take risks, so take it with a grain of salt. Who knows, maybe someday. I think we would all like to do that.”

Schofield agreed and suggested that he still has a lot of ideas to continue. “I would definitely do Dead Space 4” Stone stated, to which Schofield responded: “Yes.”

Even if Dead Space remake 2023 earned praise for its execution and fidelity to the original; reports indicate that its sales were below EA’s expectations. This forced the company to once again postpone plans for further development of the series. However, fans continue to show interest in the sci-fi horror Dead Space. What this means for the future of the iconic brand remains to be seen, but it’s safe to say that no new Dead Space-related projects are on the horizon anytime soon. Instead we can count on Kronos: A New Dawn. This horror action game from the creators Remake of Silent Hill 2 promises a mixture of Resident Evil, Dead Space and Dark Souls.
