Another week has passed, and with it a new review dedicated to a game from the world of board games. After Captivated by the Omniverse, this time we have an equally large map of the Valley of Eternity. But it doesn’t pit you directly against each other, but instead sends your group to hunt dragons and other monsters. The following lines of our review will tell you what the set is like in terms of gameplay and what aspects it wants to grab your attention.

  • Number of players: 2 – 4
  • Game time: 45 minutes
  • Price: 809 CZK (TLAMA Games)

Enter a world of magic and danger with Valley of Eternity

The card game Valley of Eternity takes you into a fascinating world full of creatures that should not be allowed among humans. Here players compete to see who can better “tame” monsters from the five kingdoms – fire, water, earth, air and the kingdom of dragons. Each player has his own playing space, where he places cards depicting creatures from these magical worlds. However, hunting is not enough here – strategy and efficient use of available resources determine the winner, because at the end of each round you can only have the maximum number of crystals required to complete it.

In the creatures menu you will find fascinating specimens such as kerbers, demons, dragons and even various deities. Each of them has unique abilities that can earn you victory points, gems or other cards. The game also offers a wide variety of effects – some activate immediately, others are permanent, and some repeat throughout each round. The graphics of the cards are very good, which makes the game even more attractive. You will love the creatures not only because of their abilities, but you will also be fascinated by their appearance. Overall, the game ensures that every player will find something to draw them into the story.

Each round begins with a Hunt. A number of cards corresponding to twice the number of players are placed on the table. Players then take turns choosing the first and second cards they want to receive. They can take further actions with the selected cards – sell them for gems, tame them, or add them to their hand. Selling cards is a convenient way to obtain resources needed for other events. Dragon cards have the highest value, while others provide less lucrative rewards. If you save a card, you will have the opportunity to use it later in a pro action, which will allow you to place the card on the board and activate its abilities.

Taming monsters is just the beginning. Once you have the creatures in your hands, it’s time to summon them. This action costs resources, but allows you to place a card in your area and use its abilities. Some effects will take effect immediately, while others will benefit you over several rounds. In some cases, you’ll even be harming your juices, and it’s worth it. If a creature is no longer crucial to your strategy, you can release it, but it’s not free. The further away you are, the more you will have to pay. While players can constantly adapt their progress and look for the most profitable card combinations, this becomes more and more difficult as time goes on, so you have to think a lot about which pieces to play and which to avoid, and that’s something. I like a lot about this game.

A game in Valley of Eternity lasts from 8 to 10 rounds, each round ending with an effects phase. This is where the permanent abilities of loaded cards are assessed. The game continues until someone reaches 60 points or until the tenth round ends. The winner is the player who scores the most points, which requires not only tactics, but also ingenuity when planning moves.

Accessibility is what Eternity Valley is all about

Valley of Eternity is really less about hunting monsters and more about smart card combinations, planning actions, and finding the best way to use resources. The simplicity of the rules and beautiful graphics make it an ideal family game or a pleasant entry into the world of card games for beginners.

Due to its accessibility and well-balanced mechanics, the game can attract a wide audience among gamers. If you are looking for a light yet fun game with excellent graphics and gameplay, Valley of Eternity is a great choice.

We would like to thank Czech distributor Mindok for providing us with a copy of Valley of Eternity.
