After ten years of waiting, a new part of the series has finally come out. Age of the Dragon. I admit, none of them grabbed me as much as the first part, called Origins, along with the Awakening data disc. However, my expectations were high. The BioWare team has brought us gems like the originals in the past. Baldur’s GateNeverwinter Nights, KOTORY and Mass Effect. Perhaps there must be many, many capable people inside. They’ve probably already left. Unfortunately, the BioWare we remember is already dead. While the game still qualifies as an RPG, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is built on a different foundation than the games the team is known for. Nevertheless, it deserves attention. I’m just warning viewers/readers upfront: be warned, this game is probably not made for you.
At the very beginning of the review, I would like to resolve the whole awakened question that has been flooding the social network inside the game in recent weeks. So… I’m a non-binary person. This scene is actually in the game, and it confirms that the game does not shy away from the topic of gender. Luckily, this exclamation isn’t the first thing Tash’s character will say to you. There is more depth and there is some character development throughout the story. I don’t see much of a difference from how bisexuality was handled in the original Dragon Age. I’m dead. The possibility of an open homosexual romance was completely unheard of at the time. Although I think that given the number of people in the population who have difficulty fitting into the male and female box, there aren’t so many of them that there is a need to pay more attention to this issue, so I don’t take offense to such representation. It only involves one character and has more depth than one scene. However, if the developers wanted the game to be as inclusive as possible, I think statistically people with diabetes or gluten allergies are overlooked much more often.
