The reason is the situation around the racing game The Crew.
At the end of last week, Ubisoft announced that the first part of the racing series The Crew was being withdrawn from sale. Four months later, the servers were shut down, making the title subject to the requirement of a constant Internet connection. became unplayable. At the same time, the game was removed from electronic libraries.
All these steps are as expected met with loud criticism from playerswho asked Ubisoft to make the game available offline. Although in the case of the first part, Ubisoft representatives rejected this possibility, in the two newer parts (The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest) they promised to solve the whole situation better in the future.
While some players began working on their own server emulator, which would launch the game again by modification, another group of users she immediately started suing Ubisoft. The class action lawsuit against the French company was filed specifically in a California court by gamers Matthew Cassell and Alan Lew, who first purchased The Crew from the GameStop chain of stores in 2018 and 2020.
According to the indictment, Ubisoft must have misled customers by failing to warn them that even with a physical edition, they were not buying a product, but only a time-limited license to use it. In another section, Ubisoft is also accused of distorted the contents of the physical editionwhich, instead of freely available data with the game, contained only a disk with a key to activate the digital version.
Prosecutors demand financial compensation for players who have lost access to the game for the reasons described above. Ubisoft representatives did not comment on the situation.
