Horizon Forbidden West, Guerrilla Games’ sequel to the post-apocalyptic tale of robots and “cavemen” for PC, brings technological improvements not available on consoles.

It will provide the performance to play the latest games in high detail and resolution.

Originally a PlayStation 4 and 5 exclusive, it was one of the first PS5 games to garner excitement for its graphical sophistication and game world. This year, this gem also came to PC with added technologies to improve performance and smooth gaming experience. Although there is no ray tracing, its absence does not detract from the visual aspect.

The game begins with an elaborate cutscene that recalls the events of the first part and shows what has changed in the world after the destruction of the evil AI. And here it is beautiful to see how the graphics settings affect the overall look of the game. On a Zing PC with a Gainward GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, I tested the game at 1440p resolution with the highest details and gradually tested NVIDIA DLSS and DLAA options. With support for Frame Generation and NVIDIA Reflex Horizon, Forbidden West essentially has the full suite of NVIDIA technologies, giving PC gamers a fully optimized gaming experience.

Performance and Graphics Settings

On base settings without Frame Generation, the game runs smoothly at around 100 FPS, and in combat scenes this performance drops off slightly, although the difference is negligible. With DLSS active in Quality mode, FPS jumps to around 130, and each additional level of DLSS increases performance by another 10%. With frame generation enabled, the game manages to maintain around 140fps with DLAA, and each level of DLSS again adds around 10%. Compared to God of War, I didn’t notice any annoying lag with frame generation enabled, and with this feature the game can be played without any problems.

A more significant limitation occurs when DLSS is set to Performance and Ultra Performance. The game often plays with depth of field, which unfortunately results in pixelated images in these modes. This is most noticeable during fast movements such as dodging – at these moments the image resembles a mosaic. Therefore, I recommend setting DLSS to Quality with active frame generation to ensure the best balance of performance and visual experience. NVIDIA Reflex is a useful bonus that is definitely worth enabling as it significantly reduces latency.
