It is equipped with Intel Core Ultra 200S processors – very unstable and weaker in games than its predecessors.

In some titles they are even behind the 3-year-old 12th generation.

On Thursday, Core Ultra 200S processors labeled Arrow Lake entered the market. You can read their detailed introduction, including information about the architecture and individual models, in the previous article. We will now focus on the review results, which are not at all positive, at least in games.

But we’ll start with production applications and multi-core tests. In the Hardware Unboxed test, the top-of-the-line Core Ultra 9 285K dominated the entire Cinebench 2024 multi-core leaderboard while consuming 50 W less than its Core i9-14900K predecessor. He also achieved the same. result in Blender, for example. On the other hand, in data decompression or Photoshop, it lags behind its predecessor, and therefore also behind its competitors from AMD.

But with games the situation is much worse. There are very few games where the new processor beats the Core i9-14900K. In some it can at least maintain the parity promised by Intel, but the problem is that in a number of them it lags behind its predecessor by several percentage points. And then we have disastrous results, such as Cyberpunk 2077 or Plague Tale: Requiem, where the new model does not even reach the performance of a 3-year-old mid-range processor Core i5-12600K.

Overall the CPU in gaming averages 14 games. 6% slower than 14900K. And I must say that this with significantly less consumptionas Intel promised. For example, in The Last of Us Part 1 it dropped by as much as 70 W to the level of the competing Ryzen 9 9950X.

However, for Intel, processors with V-Cache are still a problem for which it has no answer. They consume almost half as much and run 15% faster in games than the older Arrow Lak model. In addition, we are still talking about the previous generation X3D models; those with Zen 5 have not yet arrived.

Similar results are reported by Techpowerup magazine, which has already tested all models. The Core Ultra 7 265K is on average on par with the Ryzen 7700 (without X) in games, and the lowest Core Ultra 5 245K is even slightly behind the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Both models are slower than their 14th and 13th generation predecessors.

So all Intel can do is celebrate the performance of the integrated graphics chip based on the architecture Xe1known as the Alchemist. He offers in games an incredible 136% average shift compared not only to the 14th generation, but mainly also to the competing Ryzen 9000. Additionally, compared to AMD’s RDNA 2, the Xe1 also offers AV1 encoding support.

However, today there is one more the most serious problemwhich has not fallen yet, and this stability. A number of reviewers have reported problems with it, in addition to those already mentioned, for example, the Techtesters and Gamers Nexus channels. Steve from Hardware Unboxed mentions significantly worse performance and instability in the latest version of Windows 11 marked 24 hours a day.. In the end, I had to abandon it completely and test it on 23H2, but even so, several games and applications crashed.

We hope these issues should be fixed, but this is still a very strange generation of Intel, taking a few steps forward but a lot more backwards.
