Like the PS5 version, it uses a 6nm chip.
New console models from Microsoft have just arrived on the market, in addition to the Xbox Series S with a 1 TB SSD, this is the digital Xbox Series X and a special version of the Galaxy Series X with a 2 TB SSD. YouTuber Austin Evans took a closer look at the two new models of the more powerful console and found that they make several changes compared to the original 2020 version.
Microsoft has significantly redesigned and simplified the motherboard, the new console is something like this 100 g lighter. Cooling has also evolved with a more expensive solution called a steam chamber. replaced by more traditional heat pipes. In theory this should mean worse cooling and higher temperatures, but it doesn’t. temperature and noise remained at the same level. Following the example of later editions of the PlayStation 5, the new Xbox Series X uses it. 6nm processor.
For context, I’ll add that the original chip used 7 nm manufacturing technology. The move to more modern manufacturing means a reduction in the overall area of the chip, making it cheaper to manufacture but also more efficient. And since the clock speed remains the same, as does the performance, higher efficiency in this case means lower consumption, which Evans also confirmed with measurements.
Basic in-dash consumption without any activity is 61 watts for the base model, but 51 watts for the new model, and the digital version even took in just 38 watts. When gaming (tested specifically on Forza Horizon 5), the original Series X requires around 167W, the digital version requires 156W, and the new 2TB model requires 151W. The reduction in consumption is approximately 10% during gameplay and 18% in standby modeif we are talking about a 2 TB model, which is not small at all.
