Well-known leaker Tom Henderson was the first to report the existence of the PlayStation 5 Pro console last spring. Since then, he has brought a number of other updates, all of which have been confirmed. He must have very good sources at Sony, as in addition to the specs and features of the new console, he has now also published a full development timeline for the PS5 Pro in an article for his Insider Gaming magazine.

According to Henderson’s sources, the PS5 Pro, codenamed Trinity, was first discussed internally in Q1 2022, with active development beginning in late April and early May of that year. The first version of the devkit was ready in December, and subsequently underwent several revisions. Likewise, the second version of the SoC itself, which runs the entire device, was released in mid-2023.

Shortly before this, Sony began informing partners about the existence of the console, then still in a limited form, in full version until December 2023. At the same time, the final version of the devkits was ready and began to be distributed among users. developers. Starting from July of this year, all PS5 games should also support PS5 Pro, and the console itself, as we already know, will appear on November 7.

This marks 31 months since the start of development. Development was on schedule, and the team, led by Mark Cerny, lead architect for PS4 and PS5, completed all internal milestones on time.

Henderson adds that the next generation, the PlayStation 6, will likely take longer to develop, and the console could be released in 2028, as recently speculated. However, he cannot confirm this information yet.
