In short, development is not cheap.

Baldur’s Gate 3 publisher Michael Dows has once again opened the popular topic of video game prices. He was prompted to do so by the release of Star Wars: Outlaws, which offers several editions. Dows himself is of the opinion that the base price of games should be higher, since the current situation forces developers to artificially create special editions, the content of which can be long debated.

He himself commented on the situation as follows: “I don’t like the artificiality of post-street pricing structures. Use an inflated base price to sell subscriptions, and use vague content promises to inflate the final releases to make the base price look better. It all feels a little dangerous and disconnected from society.”

He says it would be much better if the price tag was higher, which would correspond to the quality of the work. However, Dawes does not expect that someone will just decide to take such a step. According to him, everyone is waiting for this step from GTA 6, which will first appear in 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
