While PC and PS5 gamers have been enjoying the Chinese RPG Black Myth: Wukong in recent days, breaking concurrent player records and surpassing 10 million copies sold, an Xbox Series X|S port is still just around the corner. There has been no word on it since the June delay, and we don’t even have an estimated release date. However, leaker eXtas1s has finally cleared things up.

He tweeted that he had spoken to several people from Xbox and the developers during Gamescom who had to tell him about a certain technical issue that was holding up the release, namely a memory leak. That is, a certain amount of memory that the game no longer needs is not being released, and the game is “stealing” small chunks of memory to itself to the point where there is nowhere else to get it from. This can lead to serious crashes or even a complete crash of the game.

According to the insider, these issues are the reason Wukong failed certification tests twice. It is difficult to say what role the Series S plays in this, which has only 10 GB of memory compared to 16 GB for the Series X and PS5. Therefore, the consequences of the memory leak may become apparent much sooner.

This doesn’t mean that the memory leak is an Xbox-only problem. In a Reddit thread, players are reporting the same thing on the PS5, especially after turning on the console from rest mode. The game then allegedly starts crashing violently and you have to restart the game or the entire system.

Also, this is not the first UE5 game to suffer from such problems. For example, last year’s Lords of the Fallen was similar, where sometimes there were absolutely huge traffic jams, almost freezing. But already in this game, by the way, according to the findings of Digital Foundry, however, the consequences of the memory leak were significantly worse on Xbox, compared to PS5.
