Zowie XL2566X+ 400 Hz esports monitor test: a privilege only for professionals?

The new Zowie XL2566X+ is a professional 400Hz eSports monitor with a TN panel and DyAc 2 technology, aimed at gamers who make every millisecond count.

The Zowie brand is well known among eSports players. The XL Series has become the standard for competitive gaming esports tournaments. The latest Zowie XL2566X+ is an evolution of the already legendary XL2566K, but it features an improved TN panel with a 400Hz refresh rate and next-generation DyAc 2 technology that significantly reduces motion blur. The monitor has a minimalistic design and a discreet black finish. However, Zoe is not afraid to ask for a decent amount of money for this work. Will she be able to protect her monitor?

Once you open the truly gigantic box, you’ll see a sturdy base divided into several parts, the monitor’s side screens, a power cable, a DisplayPort cable, an HDMI cable, and the aforementioned S Switch controller. This round controller features a joystick and three programmable buttons that let you instantly switch between preset profiles without having to enter the OSD menu. This way, professional players can save, for example, different modes for training, tournaments or streams. In any case, such control is more convenient than blindly fumbling around the back of the monitor with some buttons. I haven’t seen this on many monitors before and I love it.

Design and processing

What needs to be left to the monitor is its reliable processing. Everything is big, strong and heavy. The base itself with the stand seems durable. The monitor rests firmly and steadily on the table, there is no feeling that it is in danger of moving or falling. The stand also offers a wide range of monitor settings. The monitor can be rotated sideways from -45° to +45°, the monitor can also be adjusted in height up to 15.5 cm, and tilted up and down. However, what I can’t forgive myself for is the all-plastic finish. Don’t get me wrong, the plastic here is of good quality and certainly doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy, but at this price range I might have expected an aluminum body.

When I then focus on the screen itself, it is not at all thin at the waist, and the back of the monitor is relatively convex. However, given the technology used, this does not bother me too much. The frames around the 2 cm thick display look a little worse. This is one of the few shortcomings that I see here, although this is more of a design thing and does not affect functionality. In short, the rough bezels don’t look very good, the monitor looks like a much older model and that’s a shame.

The design of the monitor is inconspicuous and does not scream that it is a gaming equipment, which I like. Its all-black body is complemented by light red elements that look very good. But two small details at the back deserve special praise. The first of these is the cable holder, which nicely guides the cables behind the stand leg so that the cables do not spoil the impression anywhere. The second one is a built-in headphone stand. These gadgets are great and made me happy. I would also like to add that the available connectors include 3x HDMI, Display Port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
