Valve has surprisingly few employees

The antitrust lawsuit between Valve and Wolfire Games has revealed some interesting information about the structure and number of employees inside Valve. Although the American company, still headed by Gabe Newell, is among the most prominent companies in the video game industry, according to the aforementioned leaked documents, “only” a few hundred employeesSpecifically, 336 people are leaving, 79 of whom are involved in managing the Steam digital store.

The largest department in the video game development industry is 181 developers were employed. Another 41 people make up the hardware team, led by Steam Deck. The final entity is the admin team, which consists of 35 developers. So if you’ve been wondering why Valve hasn’t been more active in the traditional AAA space in recent years, a look at its headcount will give you a pretty clear answer.
