Without Cyberpunk 2077’s failure, Phantom Liberty wouldn’t have achieved such success

Cyberpunk 2077 was not in the best shape when it came out. Sure, there were a few people for whom the game worked well, but there was also a large percentage for whom it definitely didn’t work as it should have. The “old” generation of consoles suffered the most, as even the highly successful Phantom Liberty expansion never came out. According to the creators, the success of this expansion was due, among other things, to problems with the base game. Pavel Sasko presented it in such a way that the studio underwent a major transformation due to the difficulties.

One of the priorities was to avoid at all costs the significant pressure from the developers, which largely led to the initial negative reception of Cyberpunk 2077. A number of mechanics were also adjusted to ensure that the player could get as much enjoyment out of them as possible, which is why the expansion was rated very positively by the community. Although the development of this project has already been completed, CDPR wants to use this experience in the development of its other games, including The Witcher 4, which will undoubtedly be released on PC, as well as future versions of the PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
