New competitive first-person shooter XDefiant successful. Despite technical issues causing poor connectivity and a lack of content, the free-to-play game is very popular. During the first week they tried it out 7.6 million unique players, Insider Gaming found out. Today this number should reach 8 million.
XDefiant should have scored on all platforms 700 thousand players play simultaneously, which is a record for a free-to-play game from Ubisoft. According to Insider Gaming, the French company has set a goal of reaching 5 million players within the first month.
Tom Henderson reported last week that more than a million players played XDefiant in the first 2.5 hours of launch. In 48 hours there would be three million. XDefiant is off to such a great start. Ubisoft is expected to provide additional support to its San Francisco studio to fix issues and add new content, including additional maps, new weapons and new factions.
XDefiant for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S was released on May 21, 2024. It offers five game modes, 14 maps, 24 weapons and 44 gadgets. It is possible to fight for characters from other series from Ubisoft. There are janitors from The Division, agents from Splinter Cell, ghosts from Ghost Recon, guerrillas from Far Cry 6 or hackers from Watch Dogs. A new season comes out every three months. Each should add one new faction, three new weapons and three maps. Naturally, each will come with a 90-level battle pass. In the first year, the game will be expanded with four factions, 12 weapons and 12 maps.
