The announcement of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has truly excited the community surrounding the Assassin’s Creed series. It probably won’t surprise anyone that the thorn in the players’ side is none other than the black samurai Yasuke. In other words, the main character of the entire narrative, which is based on real foundations, but does not in all respects correspond to the historical description and reality. What’s interesting about this whole situation is how it affects Wikipedia. On the day the trailer was released, the Yasuke-centric part of it changed over fifty times. The theme of the “montage” war was the idea of whether Yasuke was a samurai or not, which is not so surprising.
It’s definitely safe to say that Yasuke is not the best choice when it comes to representing the Japanese military class. But the creators are betting big on it, and according to Tom Henderson, pre-orders should be very strong, despite a fair amount of controversy. Whether his story will be worth it won’t be known until November 15, 2024, when the game releases on PC, PlayStation 5, and next-gen Xbox consoles.
