Rumors of big changes to Xbox have been circulating online for the past week. After a huge acquisition King of Blizzard by Activision at $75.4 billion, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood would have to start talking more.
The result was the appearance of the first games on PlayStation 5 and Switch, layoffs in the Bethesda division (the closure of Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin and Alpha Dog Games) and increased attention to such well-known brands as Fallout, The Elder Scrolls or Doom.
By all accounts, Microsoft should have focused on a short-term profit strategy rather than a long-term vision for the company. Phil Spencer’s strategy as head of Xbox will slowly but surely fade away and be replaced by a strategy dictated by senior management.
Nadella and Hood should promote the release of games on PlayStation 5 and Switch, supposedly without borders. Therefore, any game in the future may leave the ecosystem. No Microsoft-owned brand should be untouchable.
According to the Windows Central server, the release of Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment is again just a test. The server claims that developers are already working on releasing new games on PS5. According to the author, these are games we probably didn’t expect.
Do you think Microsoft will push beyond the imaginary boundaries of Xbox fans and offer games like Forza, Halo or Gears of War on PS5, series that are inextricably linked with Xbox?
