He was used to falling from a height, crashing in a car, burning and cutting himself badly. But there are situations that even a chipped stuntman cannot handle. David Leitch, former stuntman and current director of the hit High-speed trainshot an action-packed comedy with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.
Stuntman Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) used to be a star in his field until something went wrong during a particularly difficult fight scene. As a result of an uncontrolled fall from a great height, Colt received bruises to his body and pride. He decided to say goodbye to the film industry forever and even kicked the handsome and promising director Jodie (Emily Blunt) for it.
But after a year of wandering, he’s tired of it, so he gratefully accepts an offer from an ambitious producer to play the role of stunt double for action star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) in an upcoming ambitious sci-fi film. But when he found out that his ex-love Jodie was making the film, he probably said to himself: “If I had known, I wouldn’t have come here.” All filming goes to waste as key actor Tom Ryder vanishes into thin air. And he instructs Colt to find him because he can throw and take hits and no one will miss him if he disappears too. All this turns Colt’s life priorities upside down. He realizes that he misses the world of cinema terribly, that director Jodi is the love of his life, and that if he doesn’t find the star of her film alive and well, it could ruin her career. This is a very decent fee for the average stuntman. Because, as he says: “I’m not a hero, I’m just a stand-in.”
