While the anticipated strategy game Frostpunk 2 won’t release until July 25, if you pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition, you’ll be able to play the beta from Monday, which includes the Utopia sandbox mode but is limited to 300 weeks of playtime. Beta testing will last until April 22.
The reaction so far has been mixed. Some players are disappointed that the sequel differs significantly from the mechanically simple but complex first game. The second is much more complex, dealing with city management on a much larger scale and also focusing even more on politics. I’m already testing the beta version and you can expect to see it sometime by the end of the week.
If you don’t want to pre-order the Deluxe edition, you can at least watch the five-minute Gameplay Deep Dive, which was released by the developers from 11 bit studios. It goes into more detail on significant changes such as urban development, but mainly on the social aspect, which is now the main threat. The Great Storm ended, and with it, the unity of people who simply wanted to survive evaporated. Now they are already divided into increasingly radical factions that will want to influence the future of the city.
Frostpunk 2 is currently only available on PC, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles will have to wait until later. The game will be available via Game Pass from the day of release.
