It probably happened to you that in connection with a famous game or series, there was an announcement of the expansion of the world in the form of a game for mobile phones. Preferably with a demo version that looks like a super highlight of what you like. And when the highly anticipated game was released, it didn’t take long to see the developers’ nefarious intentions. After the auto-click of the display, you were offered to buy VIP, currency packages, loot boxes with a super legendary glowing figurine and countless upgrade cards.

Today we’re going to break down two of the most common gaming styles that have been used over the years to force companies to serve as many microtransactions as possible under the auspices of a well-known brand.

Are you a fan of The Walking Dead? This is a unique game that offers you an exciting 1:1 experience based on the series. But no. Here’s a construction clicker for you and collect heroes and pay. Remember the legendary commander Keen? So now it will be on mobile phones too! After watching the trailer for the game from my childhood, I was simply hooked. After they showed me the gameplay, I felt completely disgusted. Luckily, this game’s planned existence was quietly wiped from existence.

Some of you remember a similar affair with Command & Conquer series. The continuation of this legendary brand was presented on mobile phones. And it looked… terrible. The Command & Conquer: Rivals project resembled a typical mobile game, which already reached into the pocket for a wallet in the trailer itself. It was a familiar Clash Royale style card game where you try to overwhelm your opponent using better placed units on the battlefield. Could this be fun? May be. Is this what fans of the cult war saga want? No. If you think that this was the final funeral for the series, then you are mistaken. Command & Conquer™: Legions is arguably even worse in development.

Commander Keen and Command & Conquer were victims of the card era. A simple, repeatable concept that has worked well in some games, increasing the likelihood of you spending money on game time, cards, or experience boosts. After the success of Clash Royale, some famous brands tried this game, but fortunately, after a negative reaction from fans, they disappeared before they could be released. Of course, some big names have found success lately. I doubt there’s anyone here who won’t say anything Warcraft series.

Warcraft Rumble achieved exactly what the previously mentioned games were trying to achieve. Blizzard Entertainment released a simple game where you strategically send units onto the board using a deck of cards you’ve built, and you have to adapt to the battlefield and the units attacking your main building. The idea is funny, but so many times redesigned in the world of mobile games, that even using one of the most famous gaming brands no longer helps. Perhaps, on the contrary, loyal fans will raise it. And I’m not at all surprised. Warcraft Rumble itself is not bad, but even if it tries to come up with something revolutionary in the already boring mechanics, in my opinion it does not offer anything of quality to show off the Warcraft name. Game mechanics doesn’t bring anything new and regarding the visuals, I would venture to say that it is not beautiful enough, if we take Hearthstone for comparison. This is also from the world of Warcraft, and although we play on a static surface, thanks to the overall visual design and details we can enjoy the magical atmosphere.

However, Warcraft Rumble lacks any atmosphere, not even in the menu itself. And even the sounds of familiar units added to the power did not change my feeling that this was the squeeze of a cult brand.

I think this style of strategy should mostly stay in Clash Royale and not be carried over to other brands. Clash is a great game, but don’t let it multiply where it doesn’t suit him.

Moving away from the typical compression we had four years ago and sending units from bottom to top or right to left, you can certainly think about the type of mobile games we’ve been blessed with lately. And more than once they were presented to us with familiar faces of heroes that we liked in games, TV series or films. Yes, hero collectors, often called gacha games. Gacha was originally called a machine in which you need to catch a toy on a hook. Makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?

Hero Collector they often have the same characters. They are mostly free, for mobile, always showering you with tons of gifts and trying to entice you to collect characters, either because of their stats that you will use in battle, or simply because of the character’s very appearance and rarity.

The most famous at the moment are Raid: Shadow Legends and Genshin Impact. The raid is simpler, more mobile and focused on opening boxes. Genshin Impact dives more into the fairy-tale world and its exploration. But at their core, both games collect heroes and then upgrade them to progress through the story or world and defeat more powerful enemies.

Raid: Shadow Legends or Genshin Impact are based on their added value, not the fact that these games they squeezed out a famous brand. But almost most of the iconic brands are gradually turning into Gacha games. Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Dragon Ball, One Piece or Black Clover are just examples of famous brands that have their own Gacha games. One would assume that with such big names behind them, these would be successful and fun games, but that’s not always the case. As a result, they are often automated games trying to get money from you and hiding their intentions behind something we like. We will show the detailed functioning of the Gacha system using two recently released collectible heroes from other famous brands. This is Devil May Cry with the name Peak of Combat and One Punch Man: Peace.

Both projects undoubtedly have fans. Unfortunately, one of them stinks precisely because of the unnecessary squeezing of the mechanism, which is not suitable for strength either. Let’s start with definitely the worst game.
