In addition to the new Frostpunk 2 trailer, another game from the Polish company 11 bit studios, The Alters, was also shown at the Xbox Partner Preview. A very unconventional survival game in which you play as Jan Dolske, shipwrecked on an abandoned planet. He has so far escaped the harsh conditions of the modern mobile base, but there is an experienced crew there, and he does not have such skills.
This is where the core mechanics come into play. The planet contains a substance called Rapidium, which, after interacting with a quantum computer, allows Ian to return to key moments in his life. What if he never left his hometown? What if he had graduated from college? What if he tried harder to save his marriage? There are many possible changes, and each of them leads to a slightly different version of Ian.
It is these “alternative Genoese” who will be the key to survival. Satisfying their needs will not be easy at all, because everyone has their own thinking, emotions, behavior, goals, as well as existential crises. However, the task is clear – to survive and go to a safe place.
The Alters will release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S sometime this year. We don’t have a release date yet, which means we won’t see the game until after Frostpunk 2 (which releases on July 25), but you can already add the game to your wishlist on Steam.
