A few days ago, Finnish studio Remedy showed us how Survival Horror has changed over the years through a developer diary. Alan Wake 2. And now we have official sales information. The game was released digitally only on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 27, 2023 by Epic Games Publishing, and sold one million copies by the end of the year. At the beginning of February/February then the creators recorded 1.3 million copies sold.
Compared to other blockbuster games, it may not be that much, and it looks like even the fairly significant Christmas discounts offered by the Epic Games Store on PC haven’t changed the results all that much. However, this Alan Wake 2 is Remedy’s fastest-selling game and the creators have already recouped most of the development and marketing costs. In its first two months of release, the new survival horror game sold 50% more copies and three times more digital copies than Control, the Finnish author’s previous major game, sold in its first four months of launch in 2019, according to Remedy executives.
