Rumors about a new console from Nintendo are growing, and a release this year is slowly becoming a certainty. But when will we finally get the official presentation? According to new information, this could happen very soon.
Well-known insider NateTheHate, who previously revealed a number of characteristics of the Switch 2, said on the Game & Talk podcast that the new console will be presented in March, being almost certain of this information.
“Nintendo will announce Switch 2 in March. Everything I heard after Gamescom last year pointed to something happening in March.” says Nate, actually referencing the same month as last year’s event in Cologne, where the console was apparently revealed to developers for the first time. Nate also mentioned March in his podcast, where he clarified that the announcement will take place before the Game Developers Conference (GDC), which starts on March 18th.
And he’s not the only one talking about March. Shortly after this, the information was confirmed by Necro Felipe, editor-in-chief of the Universo Nintendo website (but independently of NATO), adding that several developers and Nintendo publishing partners are already preparing to announce new projects for Switch 2.
But what exactly we will see in March remains a mystery. This could be a full performance at a special event, or it could just be a short announcement on Twitter or a trailer.
Finally, I’ll add that according to both sources (NateTheHate and Universo Nintendo), there will be another Direct next week. There is nothing unusual about this, the February Direct is, in fact, a tradition, but this time it may not be as full-fledged as we are used to. According to Nat, this should mainly focus on games from third-party developers and will therefore be something in the style of Partner Direct. This definitely indicates that a new console announcement is imminent.
Nintendo has a habit of releasing games monthly, but its lineup currently ends in March. Mario vs. Donkey Kong will be released on February 16th, and Princess Peach: Showtime will be released on March 22nd. Subsequently, we only know about the games Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, which have no release date yet.
