Paradox broke sales records last year, but profits fell short

Development studio and publishing house Paradox Interactive published financial results for the last quarter of last year, as well as for the whole of 2023. The highlight was sales that broke company records.

Last year Paradox took approx. $252 millionwhat compared to 2022 34% increase. This was helped significantly by the latest quarter, in which the company recorded year-over-year growth of 72% with 95 million. It includes earnings from Cities: Skylines II, Crusader Kings III, Hearts of Iron IV, The Lamplighters League and Stellaris.

Paradox is no longer satisfied with profits anyway. He earned it all year $62.8 millionwhich is what he does down 26%. The important variable again is the latest quarter, which saw 11 million people registered and a 49% decline year-over-year. The already mentioned failure had the greatest impact on profits. League of Lamplighterswhich she lost almost $24 million. For the same reason, earlier this year, Paradox and the developers from Harebrained Schemes parted ways.

“We set a new revenue record, we have consistently had over six million players for the year and quarter, and we are ending the year in a very strong financial position. But at the same time, we cannot relax. Earnings are at a level that we are not happy with, and the games released last quarter did not reach the desired quality. We definitely have the potential to achieve even more,” the head of Paradox comments on the results. Fredrik Wester.

Paradox is currently developing or sponsoring the development of nine games, including Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 or Prison Architect 2.
