Rumors have been circulating for some time now about the future of the Gothic series and especially the studio behind it, Piranha Bytes. According to the GamesWirtschaft server, it seems that the studio has been in trouble since last year, from which it cannot get out. According to some behind-the-scenes information, Embracer Group wants to get rid of the famous company in the fall of 2023. There were layoffs and reductions in working hours at the studio. Even creative director Bjorn Pankratz, who was one of the brightest figures of PB, left him.
Piranha Bytes appears to be paying the price as Embracer Group has struggled for months with high debt, which has already cost the jobs of more than 900 staff. According to some assumptions, it was cost reduction that was the reason for stopping the development of Elex 3, partially financed by the German federal government. In short, the situation is not very good, so let’s hope that the studio is sold to a company that will take better care of it.
