Today, the first of three “Super” cards of the GeForce RTX 40 series will arrive in stores, namely the RTX 4070 Super model, which in terms of characteristics seemed by far the most interesting, as it offers the highest performance increase. Number of Cores.
Reviews arrived yesterday (a list of them can be found, for example, on Videocardz), and the card performed very well in them. At the same suggested retail price as the RTX 4070, $599 (but the 4070 is now priced down to $549), the Super variant offers around 15-20% more performance. In general, when it comes to rasterization, it is at the level of the RTX 3090, but this also applies to ray tracing. That is, at least if you’re running the card at 1440p (or lower), which is what it’s aimed at anyway. At 4K resolution, the 12GB of VRAM and lower bandwidth may be an issue. On the contrary, consumption, which increased by less than 10%, is encouraging.
Overall reviews of the 4070 Super have been very positive, with reviewers often citing the new model as the first card in the entire series that can truly be fully recommended. When the base offering of graphics cards built on the Lovelace architecture gradually came out in 2022 and 2023, the response was quite mixed, as the price/performance ratio compared to the previous generation actually remained the same, and in some cases even worse.
The official price for the Czech market is CZK 16,499. The other cards in the Super update will launch in January, with the RTX 4070 Ti Super launching on January 24th and the RTX 4080 Super launching on January 31st.
