So far I have presented here mainly board and card games. Today, however, I have something for point-and-click adventure game fans who just don’t like RPGs, luck-based games, or strategy games. Authors of works that do not require a full-fledged PC or console are also thinking about it. “Sunny Island” is a trilogy consisting of three closely interconnected chapters. The following lines will tell you whether this is worth paying attention to.
- Number of players: 18
- Game time: 90 minutes
- Price: 355 CZK (Tlama Games)
- Age: 18+
Sun Island Detective Game Escape Story Will Send You To Hell
Just one glance at the first of the boxes, which contain individual parts of the Sunny Island series, clearly indicates that this will not be a fairy tale. This fact is also obvious from the fact that it is recommended to play in its entirety from 18 years of age. The main character of the whole story is Sigrid, who, having unpacked her sister’s mysterious box, goes to the island of Bornholm. Why there? This is the place where her sister Gro and her colleagues conducted research. However, something went wrong. The nurse doesn’t answer. So you have no choice but to go after her in an attempt to save her.
It probably won’t surprise you that the first chapter of the Sun Island quest is dedicated to nothing more than a journey in search of the sister who remained in the laboratory complex. During it, the player faces various threats and obstacles. However, it is impossible to cope with them only with the help of cards. You’ll also need some kind of smart device to work with the other clues this game has to offer. Yes, right. You can’t go far without a mobile phone, tablet or other smart device. These are resources where you enter your puzzle solving results.
Puzzles are often based on collecting “items” and logic. Of course, it cannot be said that any of the proposed works did not make sense or could not be deciphered under any circumstances. Absolutely not. Most of the time I found their complexity adequate, but it must be said that sometimes there was a “clue” that made me seek help due to its complexity. However, there weren’t many of them, so I enjoyed playing them even as a less experienced player of the genre. Plus, you don’t have to solve the whole mystery right away.
You can always count on four tips. The very first tip is usually very simple stamping. In short, the creators only guide you slightly. The second hint is based on the same thing. A third push can make all the difference for those who are still hesitant. Well, if you reach for the fourth, then the problem is solved. It was quite interesting for me to “pull” cards from different phases of the game, going through individual chapters of Sunny Island. I was never sure that I would need them in the next minutes. Sometimes their use led to some pretty funny moments.
However, Sun Island is not only puzzles, but also history. The puzzles will take you about four to five hours to complete at a really decent pace, which is decent. The narrative seemed strong to me, and everything was gradual, so you definitely shouldn’t count on the fact that once you start one chapter, you’ll simply run away from it. You will always want to finish her off because you will be wondering what will happen next. In one game, my group even became so engrossed in the story that they couldn’t tear themselves away from the game until the entire story was over. Personally, I would have preferred to rename the set “Dark Island” due to the darkness of its narrative.
The gloomy atmosphere of Sunny Island is clearly staring back at you.
Sun Island is an excellent detective quest game that works very effectively with the players’ imagination. The creators initially somehow count on the fact that you already have a similar thing behind you, so you have to take into account that the answer will not always be displayed to you, and sometimes you will simply be forced to think very deeply. or even use a hint. However, overall, at least for myself, I can characterize this trilogy as a very good experience, which clearly exudes a dense Nordic atmosphere. If you’re tired of computer games or just looking for something where you and your friends can really screw your brains out, this is the perfect thing.
We would like to thank the Czech distributor Albi for providing us with a copy of the game Sunny Island.
