Kurtaj did this while he was on parole and under police guard in a hotel room. Before that, he focused on Nvidia and other companies. However, even before the attack on Rockstar, other hackers managed to find him and publish contact information about him and his family, photographs and videos of him enthusiastically fishing. For security reasons, Kurtaj was transferred to a Travelodge hotel, but even there he was not given a room, and he hacked Rockstar using a laptop, an Amazon Fire TV Stick, the hotel TV and a mobile phone.
He was later arrested but did not appear in court because he was found to be mentally incompetent. declared autistic. Without his presence, the jury agreed that he was liable on all 12 counts. Kurtaj was a key member of the Lapsus$ hacking group, which also targeted other major companies such as Microsoft, Revolut and Uber. His 17-year-old companion was also found guilty.
Now Kurtaj was a judge marked as a danger to society and, according to the BBC, sentenced him to a maximum security hospital. Here he will remain until doctors decide he is no longer a danger.
