There will be no more E3. The largest gaming industry fair – INDIAN – has ended

It’s time to squeeze out a tear. The Entertainment Software Association announced this afternoon that there will no longer be Electronic Entertainment Exhibition. E3 is officially dead.

The largest gaming industry trade show was held in Los Angeles, but it failed to adapt to the changing market and the demands of large video game companies. In 2020, the show was canceled due to the pandemic, in 2021 it was entirely digital, last year it was canceled entirely, and this year’s attempt with PAX organizer ReedPop also failed. Allegedly due to little interest from publishers.

“After more than two decades of hosting an event that has served as a central showcase for the video game industry in the United States and around the world, the Entertainment Software Association has decided to discontinue E3,” said ESA President and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis to The Washington Post.

“We know the entire industry, gamers and creators are very excited about E3. We share this passion. We know it’s hard to say goodbye to such a popular event, but it’s the right thing to do given the new opportunities our industry opens up for fans and partners.”

Pierre-Louis also pointed out the changes. E3 appears to have broken the necks of publishers with the ability to host own individual presentations. Thus, this probably refers to the online formats of Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox and other companies. Post-covid there are more of them and they are cheaper for publishers than the LA fair. Despite this, the more visitor-oriented Gamescom in Cologne continues to thrive..
