The first part of the Half-Life series. celebrated 25 years since its release and Valve decided to celebrate this anniversary properly. First of all, the game is available for free on Steam until Monday, November 20 (19:00). Just add the title to your library and it will stay with you forever.
The game itself came out at the same time special anniversary update, which brings a number of interesting new features and improvements. Particularly worth paying attention to are the Half-Life: Uplink mini-campaign, four new multiplayer maps, updated graphics options, or full support for the portable Steam Deck. New content
- The game is now fully compatible with Steam Deck (and our own Linux runtime is installed by default).
- Half-Life: Uplink, a standalone demo of the base game, was recently added and can be launched from the New Game menu.
- Four new maps have been added to the Deathmatch multiplayer mode: Pollution, pool_party, Recycling and Rocket_Madness.
- Added three legacy multiplayer Deathmatch maps previously only available on the Half-Life CD: Additional data: doublecross, rust_mill and xen_dm.
- The player skins “Ivan the Space Biker”, “Prototype Barney”, “Skeleton” and “Too Much Coffee” have been added to the multiplayer Deathmatch mode.
- Added dozens of sprays that until recently were only available on the Half-Life: Further Data CD.
- Added Steam network support to make multiplayer easier (such as inviting and joining a match directly from conversations).
- Added support for Steam info statuses so your friends can see where you are in the Black Mesa Research Facility.
Nostalgic elements
- The original video with the Valve logo has been returned to the game (can be skipped using the “-novid” launch option).
- The main menu’s appearance has been “updated” to its original 1998 appearance.
- The default models have been replaced with original ones (non-HD versions).
Gameplay, controls or user interface have also received partial innovations. You can find a full overview of the changes directly on Steam. In addition to releasing the Anniversary Edition, Valve also released an over-an-hour documentary featuring individual developers talking about the creation of this now iconic game.
