As has been known for many weeks, it differs from other popular portable consoles (such as the Steam Deck) in perhaps the most important aspect – it cannot play games separately, but only through streaming from the classic PlayStation 5 console. This significantly reduces the price – with us for CZK 5,390 – but the question arises whether this is a meaningful purchase at all.
Sony fans have long debated whether the PlayStation Portal is any good at all. The downside is of course his limited opportunities – Not everyone will use streaming games from PS5 to a laptop. However, the device may be interesting for those players whose family members or roommates occupy the TV in the evening.
Believe it or not, there is now hope for many PS Portal skeptics. A recent interview with Sony Vice President Hideaki Nishin revealed that the Japanese video game giant is intensively considering cloud gaming. While players must have a PlayStation 5 console with them to stream, when the new option arrives, an internet connection will suffice and individual games will be streamed from Sony’s servers.
“As for Portal, the only difference between remote play and cloud is where the server is located, and there are no technical issues. We will start with remote play and continue testing.” Nishino said this in an interview.
After all, the first assumptions on this topic appeared already at the time when it turned out that the PlayStation Portal was built on the Android operating system. Many enthusiasts believed that it was theoretically possible to hack the console and make cloud gaming available even without Sony’s support. However, at the moment, information about the possibility of hacking the PS Portal system is at the level of only speculation.
