The popular portable Steam Deck has received a fairly significant update, it was presented today by Valve. The entire model range has undergone changes, although the youngest model has the least innovations. The latter still costs €419 and has the same specs, but now offers a 256GB NVMe SSD instead of the slower 64GB storage. Much more interesting are the two older models, which have undergone complete modifications.
The main novelty is OLED display with HDR support with brightness up to 1000 nits., which will replace the not-so-nice LCD display that was one of the main criticisms of the original Steam Deck. However, the display is slightly larger(7.4 inches compared to the original 7) and refresh rate 90 Hz instead of 60, while the display is more economical than the old one.
Another thing is connected with this, namely higher endurance. The APU that powers the Steam Deck is newly manufactured using 6nm process instead of 7nm (which provides higher efficiency), and the OLED model also has large battery capacity (50 Wh instead of 40). According to the first tests, endurance may be higher in demanding games. 50%.
According to Valve, performance should be the same, but the new model offers faster memory with 6400 MT/s, which slightly improve gaming performance (smaller and larger percentage units). Some editions have already received the new model, including the technically oriented Digital Foundry. Editor-in-chief Richard Ledbetter praised the Steam Deck OLED, saying that the device is undoubtedly the best portable device currently available.
Steam Deck OLED coming out November 16and the two older models will cost 569 euros (512 GB NVMe SSD) and 679 euros (1 TB NVMe SSD).
