Sony has confirmed the speculation made earlier this week. WITH PlayStation Studios she really said goodbye Connie Booth. An experienced producer and internal production manager for PlayStation, she has worked for the Japanese company for over 26 years and she was part of the biggest hitsincluding Spyro the Dragon, Siphon Filter, Ratchet & Clank, SOCOM, Uncharted, Jak and Daxter, InFamous, Resistance, Sly Cooper, The Last of Us, Spider-Man, Death Stranding or Ghost of Tsushima.
“[Connie Booth] helped PlayStation Studios become the success it is today, and its enthusiasm for creating an environment in which the team’s creative vision could fully flourish has had a positive influence on many game developers. We are grateful for Connie’s many contributions to the company and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.” Sony told Axios in a brief statement.
Sony did not clarify whether Booth left of her own free will. David Jaffeformer creator of God of War, learned a few days ago from his trusted sources that Booth should have been fired and her team should have left Sony..
Booth was obviously a victim of Jim Ryan’s failed vision.. The outgoing PlayStation CEO wanted to create not only single-player exclusives, but also multiplayer ones. He saw great potential in a live-action service along the lines of Fortnite, but the standalone online game set in the world of The Last of Us had problems during development, and Bungie (the creators of Destiny) had to question the project and expressed concern that that it can attract players in the long term. Then the project was frozen, and layoffs began at Naughty Dog and its supporting studio, Visual Arts.
In 2020, Connie Booth was inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame for her role in developing many of the most popular PlayStation games. When David Jaffe announced Booth’s departure, he noted that PlayStation is not what it used to be.
