Returning to everything that made the original game great, while expanding not only with new gameplay mechanics, but also with exciting new characters. This news is a bold step forward for the series, Remedy, and the entire gaming industry. Alan Wake 2 is a masterpiece that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish and leave you with something to remember for years to come.

Remedy should be commended for having the courage to make some interesting design decisions that limit Alan Wake 2’s mass appeal but enhance the enjoyment of those of us who do pick up the game. Alan Wake 2 deserves to be called, in my opinion, a masterpiece.

I’m happy to report that Alan Wake II is not only one of the best games of 2023, but it’s superior to the original 2010 game in almost every way. It has everything you could want in a sequel. Alan Wake II looks better, plays better, sounds better, and is reliably scary.

I was looking forward to Alan’s return since the original game ended on a cliffhanger and 2012’s American Nightmare didn’t advance the story much. I am pleased with the plot events in the game, but the gameplay itself, orientation in the world and avoidance of fights are not successful in my opinion. I was eagerly awaiting the next cutscene, but the gameplay often glitched and I found myself fighting bugs rather than enemies. Longtime Remedy fans and those who want to know what’s next for Alan Wake will probably enjoy the game, but getting to the end credits won’t be easy.

A quirky sequel that seems to deliberately undermine the best elements of the original in places, but still manages to do just enough to please both existing fans and potential newcomers.
