On Cities: Horizons 2 tolerates criticism. After mixed reviews in which some journalists didn’t mind the game’s poor optimization and enjoyed the rich opportunities to build and manage your own city, players are speaking out.

Continued successful modeling of the cities they buy. There are 104,697 registered concurrent players on Steam, but mixed reviews. Only 47% of users rated it positively. It is also available on PC Game Pass.

Cities: Skylines 2 has serious problems with smoothness. The technical director of the Colossal Order studio did not add to the general mood in the community. He stated that it’s aiming for 30fps rather than 60fps. In his opinion, 60 frames in the construction of the city will not bring any visible benefit. Unlike, for example, a multiplayer shooter. Many people disagree with him, at least with the panoramic camera, jerks in movement are unpleasant.

“Achieving 60fps is definitely a good thing as it can help improve graphics, so while our goal is 30fps, we’re not going to limit or stop optimization work just because we can achieve it on the recommended hardware. We just don’t think that aiming for 60fps will be a long-term benefit, especially as we face rendering challenges with both close-up and long-range cameras.” he stated on Reddit.

The creator tried to justify the problems and reduced some of them to CPU, which is heavily loaded when modeling large cities. But as a test from PCGamesHardware showed (video below), Cities: Skylines 2 can’t take advantage of powerful processors. These are signs of poor optimization, which contributes to the fact that even on modern PC builds the game does not reach a stable 30 frames per second.

The main task of developers is now to improve optimization. In the meantime, he advises players to sacrifice graphics for a smoother gameplay. Console versions (Xbox Series X/S and PS5) have already been delayed. They are expected in the spring of 2024.
