Record gaming revenue for Microsoft, but sales of Xbox consoles decline – INDIA

Microsoft is celebrating its best first fiscal quarter in Xbox history to date. Between July and September this year, the division managed to exceed expectations in terms of revenue from games, content and services.

Gaming revenue grew 9% year-on-year to $3.9 billion, which is very similar to the results achieved between October and December 2017. In terms of content and services, Microsoft is up 13% year over year.

He takes credit for his success Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass And Star field. Bethesda Game Studios’ highly anticipated space RPG became the best-selling game of September 2023 in the US, peaking at No. 1. 10 million players. Even though the game is on Game Pass, there were 330,723 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB. Looks like early access worked on Xbox too.

Presenting the results, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that Starfield has crossed the 11 million players mark. Almost half of the hours played are on PC. The game also saw the largest daily increase in Game Pass subscribers. But Nadella did not elaborate further.

Where Microsoft didn’t succeed, they equipment sales. Compared to last year they fell by 7%. This was due to fewer consoles sold, which was offset by higher prices. The American company continues not to disclose the figures of consoles and games sold. Unfortunately, we haven’t even received current Game Pass numbers.

Growing Xbox sales have helped Microsoft offset less interest in the Surface. The technology firm reported total revenue of $56.5 billion, up 13% from last year.

After acquiring Activision Blizzard King for $68.7 billion, Microsoft became one of the largest video game companies. Americans have doubled down and consider gaming as one of their three main areas. CEO Satya Nadella sees more people playing games and spending more time with them. For Generation Z, this should be even more so.
