It’s been two years since the trailer for the remake of the acclaimed role-playing game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, originally developed by BioWare and released in 2003 and developed by Aspyr Media, appeared on PlayStation Showcase.5 and PC. It was the choice of the developer that raised some doubts, since this is a studio that deals primarily with ports, not remakes.
Apparently, development hasn’t been going well: last year it was announced that the project was moving to Saber Interactive, the parent company of Aspyr (which is itself part of the giant Embracer Group). A few months ago, one of the investors, during the presentation of Embracer results, about the status of the remake he askedHowever, he received no answer. And now another sign is emerging that may indicate something more serious than just developmental problems.
Fans noticed this on YouTube disappeared official trailer from the PlayStation channel, so the video is now private. You won’t find him anyway tweet announcement and other mentions of the game on your PlayStation account. As such, speculation is starting to surface that the shutdown of the tracks could mean the KOTOR remake is canceled entirely.
There has been no official announcement yet, but Embracer Group has faced serious problems recently. A few weeks ago, Volition studio was closed, layoffs were made at Gearbox, and Embracer announced that they would be closing several more studios. So it is possible that the remake of Knights of the Old Republic will become one of the next victims of financial difficulties.
Based on reports last year, the game was originally delayed indefinitely at Aspyr and then rumored to have been moved to Saber Interactive, coupled with Embracer’s financial problems, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear it canceled or at least SIE left the game.
