At the end of September, the Polish company CD Projekt RED will release the long-awaited Phantom Liberty expansion for the Cyberpunk 2077 role-playing game. The developers reported some time ago that this will be one extensionthat the game will receive. Representatives of the studio recently in an interview with investors as part of the publication of their financial results said that the reasons why Cyberpunk 2077 will see only one addition are of a technical nature. The authors specifically mentioned changing the engine of their future games.
While all of CD Projekt’s games to date, including Cyberpunk 2077, have been built on their own Red Engine, other upcoming projects led by the new Witcher they will use the services of Unreal Engine. Instead of potentially problematic parallel development of separate projects on two different engines, the developers decided to completely switch to working with the mentioned Unreal Engine after the release of Phantom Liberty. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty launches September 26 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
