We waited a long time, but it finally arrived. AMD has officially unveiled new graphics cards at Gamescom, specifically the Radeon RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT models, which will fill the existing gap between high-performance and budget cards in the lineup. As a result, they differ a little less than you might expect, but let’s look at the characteristics in more detail.
The Radeon RX 7800 XT is built on a full-fledged Navi 32 chip with 60 computing units, an overclocking frequency of 2.43 GHz and a consumption of 263 watts. In terms of memory, we can expect 16 GB GDDR6 with 256-bit bus and a speed of 19.5 Gb / s. The price tag is 499 dollars, respectively 549 euros (recalculation + 19% VAT).
AMD is aiming for 1440p with the card and comparing it to competitor Nvidia’s RTX 4070 which offers 4GB less VRAM, obviously also less performance and costs $100 more, on the other hand it has significantly lower consumption. AMD promises an average performance of 3.5% higher, the rasterization lead can be very high, on the contrary, with ray tracing enabled, it loses in almost all titles. But we’ll have to wait for independent tests.
A cheaper model in the form of the Radeon RX 7700 XT also uses the Navi 32 chip, but in a slightly stripped-down version of it. He will receive 54 computing units and, on the contrary, a slightly larger increase – 2.544 GHz. In any case, the amount of memory is significantly reduced, the card offers only 12 GB with a 192-bit bus and a speed of 18 Gb / s. Consumption is only slightly lower, namely 245 watts. Condition – $ 449, respectively € 489 (recalculation + 19% VAT).
As for the lower-end card, AMD is also targeting 1440p resolution, comparing it to the 16GB RTX 4060 Ti, which is $50 more expensive. It has 4 GB more memory, but much less bandwidth. On the other hand, it boasts 80W less power consumption. According to AMD, the RX 7700 XT should be 12% faster on average. Again, the difference is often even more pronounced with rasterization, and given the big advantage, even RT’s performance is relatively comparable.
Both cards will go on sale September 6th. The Radeon RX 7800 XT will also receive a reference model, while the 7700 XT will only rely on partner development.
